Countries – old is the experience gained in salt production from the salt lakes along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The citizens of ancient – old town of Ankhialo used to produce sea-salt as early as 3rd century B.C. from Pomoriisko lake, and the production of sea-salt from Atanasovsko lake, started in 18th century in an industrial way.
“Chernomorski solnici” JSC is one of the oldest companies in the country. It was founded in 1906 by A. Iliev in cooperation with the Romanian I. Turshu with the construction of installation near the village of Atanasovo. /now living complex “Izgrev” of Bourgas/. The first 6 000 tons of sea-salt were produced in 1908. During the last 100 years the company has been expanded and increasingly modernized and mechanized.
Crystal sea-salt production was weakly included in the economy before 9th of September 1944. From 1944 to 1947, the company was in possession of United Union, and after that the company returns ownership to the Republic of Bulgaria. The crystal sea-salt was increased, due to supply of machine – screening machines, diesel locomotives, belt conveyers and others.
